There are a few times a year when I know that area law enforcement will
be out in full-force, taking a “zero tolerance” approach to
suspected DUI drivers.
This year’s Superbowl Sunday is no different. No matter what the
final result of the game is (currently odds are Patriots -4 ½),
you can rest assured that the Highway Patrol, Town of Lexington, Sheriff’s
Department, and City of Columbia are going to be looking for driver’s
tonight showing signs of possible impairment.
So what are they looking for?
- Not using a turn signal
- Failing to “go” at a stop-sign or traffic light
- Driving too slowly
- Running a stop-sign or red-light
- Failing to turn on or dim headlights
- Weaving (you just barely need to touch a line)
- Anything else they can stop you for
DUI task-force and ambitious officers will try to sort out whether or not
they are going to be making a DUI arrest after just a few seconds of contact
with the driver.
The most common way to help them decide to arrest you is to answer anything
but “no” when they ask “how much have you had to drink
tonight?” Area police have also been trained on how to make arrests
for prescription drug use (so they can arrest you for DUI for following
your doctor’s advice).
If you are charged with DUI tonight we can help you. First step is to contact
our office at (888) 301-3532. We have free information we can send you
by e-mail, or we can schedule a free consultation. If you’re license
was suspended by the officer (for refusing a breath\drug test or blowing
0.15 or more), we can also help you file the paperwork to get a legal
license to drive, usually the same day.
